ISLAMABAD The Capital police on Monday discharged a case it had registered the other day against CDA Chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi and other top officials of the authority after finding no substantial evidence of the crime the officials were charged against, a police official said. The development resulted after the Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani intervened into the issue and directed the concerned quarters to fix the things as per law at earliest, sources said. Sources further maintained that earlier on Monday morning PM has also summoned Inspector General of Police Wajid Durani to PM House, where the latter confessed that capital police did not act in accordance with the law and tendered his apologies before the PM. However, CDA Spokesperson Ramzan Sajid said he had heard the news but could not confirm it. However, he was of the view that a fair inquiry into the registration of case against a grade-22 official without prior approval of the federal government is needed. Station House Officer Aabpara Police Station confirmed the news saying all was done on merit. He said he had visited the site and found no substantial clue endorsing the stance of the complainant. I have visited the scene where the PPP youth wing had established a protest camp but found that it fall in the vicinity of the CDA Headquarters building. And as per law CDA had the authority to remove any sort of encroachment from the area, added SHO. Earlier, in a rare case of victimization of top tier officials of CDA including its Chairman Imtiaz Inayat Elahi, a nominated FIR containing charges of theft and threat had been registered against them allegedly for not extending their support to illegally accommodate PPP Jialas in the civic agency. The first information report (FIR) was lodged with Aabpara Police Station by PPP Jialas under section 506/379 PPC against CDA officials including its Chairman, Member (Finance), Director DMA, Director Security, former Director HRD, CDA Spokesperson and 20 other unknown employees of the Authority. Above all, prior to the registration of case against CDA top echelons officials including a grade-22 official, the police department even did not take permission from the higher authorities especially Secretary Establishment, that is stated to be mandatory in such cases. The FIR, that was registered at around 3 a.m. on Sunday shows that aforementioned officials threatened the participants of a protest camp established by the PPP workers in front of CDA Headquarters building and made away with three tents, water pots and rags. Rizwan Qureshi has directed DIG Banni Amin to lodge FIR against said CDA officials excluding CDA Chairman, but reacting loyal than the king, Banni Amin included the name of Imtiaz in FIR, confided a PPP leader who had attended the protest camp. Talking to The Nation, Banni Amin contradicted the charges saying he was completely unaware of the development.
