KARACHI - The special Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) at the Sindh High Court on Monday remanded six Rangers personnel and one private person till June 17 for allegedly being involved in the extra-judicial killing of a youth at Karachi. The investigation team, formed by the SC under the supervision of West Zone Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Sultan Khwaja, produced the accused including Sub-Inspector Bahaur Rehman, Lance Naik Liaqat Ali, Muhammad Mintar, Muhammad Tariq, Muhammad Afzal, Shahid Zafar and a private person Muhammad Akbar before the administrative judge, Justice Maqbool Baqar, seeking their physical remand for further interrogation in the case. The accused were brought to the court amid tight security. Two of the Rangers men Mohammad Afzal Khan and Shahid Zafar are already on remand till June 15 by the lower trial court. On Sunday, the investigation team recorded statements of the accused at Boat Basin police station. The team has also confiscated their official arms and mobile phones. After the courts proceeding, DIG Khwaja told the media men that he would submit challan against the accused in the next hearing. The statements of the witnesses were recorded at the time of committing the offence, he added. He said they had amended the FIR against the Rangers personnel besides adding the Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorists Act to it. The investigation team shall complete the investigation in seven days and submit a challan in the apex court for further trial. Besides, the police had registered three different cases against two of the Rangers personnel Mohammad Afzal Khan and Shahid Zafar.
