Rawalpindi - Seven policemen, including an SHO and ASI, were booked for illegally detaining a man and implicating him in a fake weapon possession case, said a police spokesman yesterday.

He said that six out of seven cops were arrested and sent to jail. He said that the case was registered against cops following instructions of Regional Police Officer (RPO) Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja.

According to him, the victim lodged a complaint with the RPO saying SHO Police Station Chotala, Arshad along with ASI Iftikhar Afzal and five other cops arrested him and later implicated him in an illegal weapon possession case. Taking action, the RPO tasked DSP Chotala Circle to probe the matter thoroughly and submit a report. The DSP found the cops guilty during the course of inquiry and recommended strict departmental action against them.

On this, the RPO ordered Chotala police to register a case against the cops and arrest them. Police booked cops and arrested SHO Arshad, ASI Iftikhar Afzal, Moharar Muhammad Afzaal and Constables Muhammad Zamir, Mansoor and Muhammad Zain, the spokesman said adding that six were arrested and sent to jail while Zaki Shah was still at large. He added that police are conducting raids to arrest him.

Meanwhile, a citizen has filed an application with the Regional Police Officer (RPO) Office, saying that his ex-wife, who is a lawyer, has got registered a fake case against him. Following the application, RPO Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja held an inquiry against In-charge Police Post Katcheri Sub-Inspector Awais Akram, sources informed The Nation yesterday.

According to sources, a citizen Imran Raza, a private contractor in Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, lodged a complaint with RPO in which he stated that her ex-wife Ayesha Manzoor Abbasi Advocate, has got registered a bogus case against him in alleged collaboration with police. He added that he had not threatened her ex-wife or tortured other lawyers in the premises of district courts; rather he along with his friends had been subjected to torture by the lawyers. He appealed to the RPO to investigate the allegations and provide him with justice. Taking action, RPO held inquiry and summoned SI Awais Akram, the investigation officer of the case.
