RAWALPINDI  - A five-day polio drive will commence in Rawalpindi from Nov 18 in which 1,365 polio teams would go door-to-door and administer polio drops to 695,000 children less than five years of age in all tehsils and union councils of the district.

The health authorities suggested to the district officers to take steps under Section 144, against those hindering the campaign. It was also decided that 76 polio centres would be established in urban areas in order to facilitate the citizens and serve them at their doorsteps.

He said staff deployed for the campaign has been issued special instructions and informed that no negligence in this regard would be tolerated.

The Health Department officials have been directed to remain vigilant, particularly in those areas where polio-virus was found during the last years campaign, the District programme coordinator Javaid Iqbal Ch informed.

He said all possible steps had been taken by the Health Department to make the campaign a success.
