LAHORE - Food Minister Punjab Malik Nadeem Kamran has said that food department is supplying sufficient quantity of flour to Balochistan and NWFP on daily basis. He further said that the flour supply could be enhanced according to the requirements of these two provinces. According to an official handout issued, he stated this while presiding over a departmental meeting at his office here on Monday. Secretary Food Irfan Elahi, Director Food Waseem Mukhtar Ch and other concerned officers were also present on this occasion. The Provincial Minister said that the food department is supplying quality flour in abundance at sale points, Sunday Bazaars, open markets and 'Tandoors' at government's fixed rates. He said that the department was also collecting flour samples from the flourmills regularly to ensure supply of quality flour. Stern action would be taken against flour millers found indulged in supplying of substandard flour, he warned. Nadeem expressed his satisfaction that flour supply position in the province is quite satisfactory and there is no shortage of flour in the province. He said that government is supplying flour to the "Tandoors" according to their requirements in order to ensure the provision of "Sasti Roti" to the indigent people. Imported wheat has started reaching in the province and 40 thousand tons of wheat has so far been received while the remaining 440,000 tons of wheat would reach soon, he maintained. DCO constitutes body to ensure roti at Rs2 District Coordination Officer (DCO) Sajjad Ahmed Bhutta has constituted committees headed by TORs in all towns of the City to ensure roti at Rs2 and supply of flour to tanoors on time. According to an official handout issued on Monday, the committees will send their reports regarding the demand of flour and sale of rotis at 2,900 tandoors of the City to the DCO within three days. The DCO has also directed the flourmill owners to supply flour to tandoors of four days in advance. Food Department officials told the DCO that at least 16,000 flour bags are being supplied to tandoors on daily basis. However, special magistrates informed the DCO that cases have been registered against 12 persons for selling roti at high price.   Education Dept organises seminars On the instructions of Chief Minister Punjab, the Education Department has arranged seminars and educational consultative meetings at the division level to invite suggestions from the teachers, heads of institutions, parents and dedicated citizens, said spokesman of the Education Department here on Monday. He said that these seminars and meetings would be held in Faisalabad on October 15, Sargodha on October 16, Gujranwala on 21, Rawalpindi on 23, DG Khan on 28 and Lahore on October 30. It may be mentioned that such seminars / meetings have already been held in Bahawalpur and Multan on October 09 and 10, 2008 respectively.
