The lawyers of District Bar Association observed a complete strike to protest against the target killing of District Press Club chairman Yaqoob Shahzad Amar here on Monday.  On the occasion, DBA President Fayyaz Ahmad Tarar and General Secretary Malik Nazakat Ali Phularwan DBA expressed solidarity with the mediamen and called upon the RPO and DPO to order the police to arrest the accused without further delay.

Meanwhile, Hydro-Electric Labour Union Hafizabad in its emergent meeting held here under the chairmanship of Malik Shafqat Mehmood has also condemned the brutal murder of the district press club chairman PC and offered ‘fateh’ for the departed soul. He also called for early arrest of the accused.

THREE KILLED: Three persons were killed in different incidents in the district during the past 24 hours.  According to rescue sources, Muhammad Attique S/o Haji Liaqat Ali of Jinnah Town Lahore was on the way to Islamabad in his car (LEC-5436) and when he reached near Gurhi Mumbran on motorway, one of the tyres of the vehicle exploded as a result of which the vehicle struck against the roadside fence, killing the man on the spot.

Meanwhile, the dead body of a young man was found on Pindi Bhattian Road near Jalalpur Bhattian by the police.  According to police source, the deceased was an addict and he might have died of overdose of drugs. Identity of the deceased could not be ascertained yet.

Another Muhammad Atif a fruit vendor of Kassoke Road who received fatal injuries due to firing by Malik Khalid and his sons of Karyala, died in Lahore hospital on Monday. The relatives of the deceased staged sit-in on Ali Chowk Bypass and blocked the road by burning tyres to protest against the inaction of the police to arrest the accused.  However, the police reached the spot and assured the protestors that the accused would be arrested shortly.

Ulema role for peace in Muharram: District Police Officer Muhammad Zubair Dareshak has called upon religious scholars from different schools of thoughts to ensure peaceful and brotherly atmosphere in the district during the forthcoming holy month of Muharamul Haram. Addressing members of District Peace Committee Hafizabad, he said that Islam taught the lesson of love, affection, tolerance and forbearance. It is, therefore, imperative for all patriotic elements to create congenial atmosphere to foil the evil designs of anti-Islam and anti-state elements, who were out to create hatred among different sect the Muslims.

Ulema belonging to different sects including Barrister Wasimul Hassan Naqvi, Maulana Nasrullah Khan Bhatti, Liaqat Zawar Khanoo, Rana Muhammad Asghar Chishti, Maulana Faisal Nadeem Kelani, Syed Hussain Ali Shah and Rana Khalid Mehmood attended the meeting.
