Hugh Grant has said he will not be appearing in Bridget Jones 3, because he didn’t like the script. The Rewrite star played bad boy Daniel Cleaver opposite Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth in the 2001 adaptation of Helen Fielding’s hit novel Bridget Jones’ Diary and its 2004 sequel.

But Hugh has told Free Radio that he will not be reprising the role in the third film.

He revealed: “I decided not to do it, but I think they’re going to go ahead and do it without Daniel.” Fielding’s third book Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, does feature Daniel Cleaver, but only in a minor role as occasional babysitter to her children. Hugh added: “The book’s excellent, by the way, but the script is completely different - well, the script as I last saw it a few years ago.”
