LAHORE - Despite police alertness during the Eid holidays, the citizens were deprived of valuables worth more than Rs30 million during 105 reported robbery and dacoity incidents. Three people were murdered, 11 other were crushed to death and some six bodies were recovered from various parts of the City during the Eid holidays, it is learnt. Moreover, the landline phone numbers of more than 50 police stations out of 76 were found dead during different timings of the day, a large number of victims and Lahore Police sources revealed to this scribe. According to the victims, during the recent wave of perpetual incidents of robbery and dacoities, the victims kept on calling at their nearest police stations but all the landline numbers of the police stations were dead. Some of the police stations, whose numbers were found dead include Defence A, Factory Area, Mustafa Abad, Burki, Hadyara, Baghba-npura, Anark-ali, Rang Mahel, Naulakha, Mochi Gate, Yaki Gate, Ravi Road, Lorry Ada, Misri Shah, Shadbagh, Old Anarkali, Lytton Road, Moza-ng, Women Racecourse, Millat Park, Iqbal Town, Samanabad, Sanda, Sherakot, Gulshan-e-Ravi, Ghaziabad, Batapur, Garden Town, Ichhra, Shadman, Liaqu-atabad, Naseerabad, Nishtar Colony, Kahna, Sabzazaar, Chuhng, Raiwind City, Satukatla, Johar Town, Township and Gujjarpura. Lahore Police (Operations) spokesman, however, claimed that the crime ratio was decreased in these three days compared to routine crime ratio. He said landline number of one or two police stations were mistakenly dead. Moreover, four alleged dacoits - two from Bund Road and two from Shalimar - were arrested during the dacoity attempts. As per reported incidents, 38 robberies and dacoities were taken place on the first day of Eid, 35 on 2nd day while 32 incidents occurred on the third day of Eid. According to police, a 70-year-old unidentified woman at Zahoor Elahi Road in Gulberg, Hafiz Ahmed Raza, father of two, in Manawan, 40-year-old Akram in Factory Area, 45-year-old Noor Muhammad in Satukatla, Maratib Ali along with his seven-year-old Zohaib, Fiaz in Raiwind City, Aslam near Lorry Adda, Faiqa in Garden Town, Qari Muhammad, 65, and six-year-old boy Sohail were crushed to death in different road accidents during the three days of Eid. On Saturday morning, a speedy oil tanker crushed a constable Muhammad Qasim, father of two and resident of Chaanga Maanga, to death in Raiwind City. Police maintained that Qasim signalled the driver of the tanker (GLT-9711) to stop for search on which the driver further accelerated and crushed him. The victim died on the spot. The driver Jamshed Khan however said that the breaks of the tanker failed, which resulted into this untoward incident. Police have arrested the accused. Further investigations were underway. Police investigators said that an 18-year-old drug addict Imtiaz gunned down his 45-year-old father Noor Muh-ammad at Bhamay Jhug-ian in Shadbagh over money dispute. According to police on the first day of Eid, a private security guard, 50, was gunned down in Hanjerwal police limits. The heirs however alleged that two accused namely Abdul Rehman and Haroon had committed the crime on which police registered an FIR against six persons including them. One Suleman, 17, was also found dead in a leather factory located in Misri Shah area. Meanwhile, a strangled body of a 30-year-old unnamed youth from Qila Gujjar Singh, a 35-year-old body from Badami Bagh, 40-year-old from Satukatla, 37-year-old from Lower Mall and body of a 30-year-old man was recovered from Gulshan-e-Iqbal during the three holidays.
