LAHORE - Federal Minister for Defence Ch Ahmad Mukhtar has said that army is an agency of the federal government and helping the flood affectees as part of its duties. Talking to reporters after attending a party meeting on Monday, the minister said that people should not see the federal government and the army in isolation. He said federal government had provided funds and other resources to the army to rescue the people and to provide them relief till their rehabilitation. He said army has been equipped with helicopters, boats and other resources to deal with any emergent situation arising out of floods or any other natural calamity. Ahmad Mukhtar said it was a wrong impression that army was some organisation over and above the federal government. Replying to a question, he said PPP was prepared to react accordingly if some party wanted to do politicking over floods.
