PUNE (India) Former Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-opener Brendon Kuruppu will always cherish the letter he had received from the ICCs Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU). Kurruppu got a letter from the ICC which appreciating his work as a team manager, a very influential source said from Colombo. I didnt name any particular player in my report to the ICC. But some incidents were brought to my notice by the team players and I immediately informed it to the ICC, he said to this scribe. Surprisingly, he was replaced earlier this year without being intimated any reason by the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) with Anura Tennakoon taking his position. He was replaced and offered a rip-off position as a selector in return for one they wanted in place of him. But a decent man that he is, he refused and has been stabbed in the back by a system he has worked for watchfully. He was only doing his job as manager, a close confidante said, and was also confirmed by Kurruppu himself. He had no faith in the present SLC set up and therefore he directly informed the ICC about players approach by the bookie, he said. In the normal protocol he was supposed to inform the home board first, another source said. The cricket board, after removing him as manager, realised there would be outcry from the for his honesty and tried to ratify the error and offered him a selectors job but he refused to take up that position, the source further added.
