JHANG - Jhang is perhaps the only district of Punjab which has so far been safe from the epidemic of dengue fever otherwise almost the whole of Punjab has been in the grip of the fatal disease. This was stated by Executive District Officer (EDO) Health Dr Khalid Islam while taking to this scribe here on Tuesday. He said that entire machinery of the health department had been mobilised to thwart the onset of dengue epidemic which was also known as break-bone fever and was a very dangerous infectious tropical disease caused by the dengue virus. The EDO told that all the doctors and other officials of health department had strictly been directed to intensify their efforts for coping with any contingency in the district. He said that coordinated efforts were made to the mass awareness regarding the preventive and precautionary measures to avoid the spread of dengue. He said that effective and positive result-oriented fumigation campaign had been initiated in the entire district as a result of which the dengue situation was well under control here. The EDO further told that second phase of fumigation was nearing completion which would prove very effective in eradication of mosquitoes. He said that all-out measures had been taken on war footings under his on supervision and under the supervision of DCO Shahid Niaz to keep district Jhang safe from the fatal disease.
