ISLAMABAD (INP) - Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has decided to resign from the Committee in protest against the appointment of Akhtar Buland Rana as Auditor General of Pakistan and non-cooperative attitude of the Federal Government. When journalists sought Chaudhry Nisars comments on the reports of his resignation after his Press conference about disclosures by WikiLeaks on Tuesday, the Chairman of the PAC confirmed that he has decided to resign and an announcement would be made at a Press conference soon. He said for the first time in the history of the country, the PAC presented six reports and made record recoveries of Rs 115 billion. He said in order to create hurdles in the work of the PAC, the Prime Minister has appointed a person of disputed credential as Auditor General. He pointed out that the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had also written a letter to the President about Akhtar Buland Rana. He said the PML-N has four members in the PAC while recently the government has nominated more members in order to upset its working. He said in this situation he cannot work on this position and has decided to resign. Sources close to Ch Nisar Ali Khan said that he has already consulted PML-N President Mian Nawaz Sharif and Punjab CM Shahbaz Sharif in this connection and got their approval. Staff Reporter adds: Strongly reacting over use of some extracts from WikiLeaks, Nisar Ali said he got married with a US citizen of Pakistani origin in 80s as his in-laws were settled in the America. I never wanted to comment on my private life but this time, I felt it necessary to clear it. The way some section of media portrayed the chunks of cables was regrettable, he said while addressing a press conference. My in-laws were settled in USA and my wife had US nationality at the time of marriage in 1980s. I always kept my family affairs private, he said, adding that just to clarify he was left with no option than to mention a family dispute after which his wife and children had left for USA for a short span of time. When he came to know that his children were being given US nationality, he reacted and sent a legal notice to the US embassy in Islamabad, which was still on record. To a question about his childrens nationality, he said that as per the US laws parents could not force children to surrender their nationality. The children would themselves decide about the nationality under the US law, as the parents could not take any decision in this regard, he added. Nisar further clarified that his family visited US only one time in the last 25 years and that visit was also for the purpose of medical treatment. He has not visited the US since 9/11 although he was invited. Without naming anyone, he said that some elements were behind the campaign against him. He said that there were several members of the Parliament who possessed dual nationality. He also referred to several meetings wherein he had heated discussion with several US officials in order to safeguard national interest. I never compromised on national interest as all my statements and speeches were part of National Assembly record, he said, adding that he was not anti-US as a nation but had serious reservations over the US policies after the 9/11. He has served as a minister for 6 times but never compromised on national interests, he added. When asked about Dr. Zulfiqar Mirzas allegation, PML(N) leader termed it a serious issue, saying that a judicial commission should investigate the matter. The PML-N would raise this issue in the upcoming session of National Assembly, he added.
