OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE - Tractor industry stakeholders has challenged the FBRs claim of collecting revenue from tractor sales. No sales mean no tax. There has been no tractor sale for the last 2 months. This was discussed at a meeting held at PAAPAM Head Office here on Tuesday. The meeting said that the GST imposition has completely stalled local tractor manufacturing as the customer is not booking tractors at such high prices. It seems that governments plan to collect revenue from Agri sector by imposing GST on tractors has failed from the very beginning. In fact it has rendered a death blow to the tractor part makers who are 100 percent dependent on tractor assembly plants for their sales. There are also rumors to import thousands of tractors from China and sell it at subsidized rate under ZTBL loan scheme to compete with the local tractor industry, which currently produces the cheapest tractor in its quality in the world.
