ISLAMABAD - Ameer Jamaat-i-Islami Senator Sirajul Haq yesterday said that the ongoing operation against corruption and militancy would be in the interest of democratic order of the country and advised political parties to purge their ranks of such elements.

Addressing a gathering of the party leaders and workers at the Central Office of Al-Khidmat Foundation and later talking to media persons, the JI ameer looked optimistic about the future of his party and said that after elections Jamaat-i-Islami would emerge as the real power because of its neat and clean leadership with no tainted people in its fold.

The function was also addressed by the central party leaders including JI Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa ameer Prof Ibrahim, JI Naib ameer Punjab Maulana Abdul Jalil, Raza Shah, Syed Auzair Hamid and Dr Mohammad Kamal and stressed the need for enhancing contacts with public to convey the message of the party aimed at making Pakistan a true democratic Islamic state.

In his address, the JI ameer said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had promised with him while sitting in Masjid-i-Nabvi that he would bring Islamic revolution through ballot but he forgot all this after coming into power.

Fully supporting the ongoing Rangers’ operation in Karachi, Siraj said things had changed for better in the restive port city after the launch of operation which was initiated on the demand of all political parties and other stakeholders in the province.

He said such an operation would greatly benefit the democratic order in the country and asked the mainstream political parties including MQM and PPP to shunt out such elements from their ranks instead of making hue and cry over their workers’ arrest by the Rangers.

The JI ameer recalled that all the political parties in the Parliament had unanimously passed the 21st Constitutional Amendment and launch of the Karachi operation under the National Action Plan. He further said that now the criticism of some political forces on the institution of Armed Forces was totally baseless and out of place.

Responding to media persons’ questions, the JI ameer said that they were against victimisation of any political party. However, he added that political parties should also see criminal elements taking refuge in their fold and should dissociate themselves from criminal elements as it was in their own interest as well as in the interest of the incumbent political dispensation.

He regretted that certain political elements were engaged in mudslinging on the state institutions and said that the armed forces of the country were just implementing the decisions of the Parliament as under the 21st Constitutional Amendment all political forces had put their weight behind the ongoing operation against militants in Karachi.

He demanded strong action against those involved in the financial corruption dubbing it an economic terrorism. He announced to segregate the business from politics after coming into power as according to him rulers should stay away from doing business till the time they are holding the public office.
