A rickshaw driver was allegedly ‘beaten to death’ over a fare dispute by unidentified accused in Chak 138/9L on Sunday. The death sparked a protest by the bereaved family and locals who blocked a road, demanding arrest of the accused.

According to reports, rickshaw driver Muhammad Pervaiz reached Chak 138/9L from Sahiwal city with four passengers on board a rickshaw.

He demanded Rs40 as fare but the passengers gave him Rs30. At which Pervaiz demanded Rs10 more but the unidentified ‘four passengers’ started beating him with clubs and wooden sticks. They allegedly tortured him brutally due to which he died on the spot. The assailants fled the scene.

Following the incidents, members of the bereaved family along with scores of locals gathered on the spot and blocked the road by placing his dead body.

They demanded immediate arrest of the accused and stern punishment for them. The police rushed the spot and opened the road.

The Dera Rahim police have registered a murder case and started investigation with no clue about the accused till filing of this report.
