LAHORE - Renowned scientist and Thar Coal Project head Dr Samar Mubarakmand has said that 100 million barrel diesel and 50,000MW electricity can be generated annually from Thar Coal Project.

In an interview, Dr Samar said that a small coal plant can generate four MW electricity at the cost of Rs 1 million.

He said that no new dam was constructed in the eras of Pervez Musharraf and Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) that led to the increase in the energy crisis. He said that he gave a proposal to install coal units to generate cheap electricity to Punjab and Sindh governments but the proposal could not be materialized. “I am hopeful that Mian Nawaz Sharif will support the Thar Coal Project,” he added.

Dr Samar said that foreign mining companies run away and leave the country due to deteriorated law and order and lack of facilities for mining.
