LAHORE - Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly Mian Mehmood-ur-Rasheed, demanding the provincial government table the local government bill in the next session of the assembly for debate, said approval of the bill with the inputs of the House would ensure early conduct of the local bodies’ polls.

He made this demand while addressing an Iftar party hosted in his honour by local leaders on Sunday. He said the provincial government had promised to hold the local bodies’ polls in November, adding the opposition would not let the provincial rulers deviate from its pledge.

Mehmood remarked that loadshedding during Sehri and Iftar reflected the government’s failure to control the crisis even a little bit. “The governmetn had announced not to carry out power loadshedding during Sehr and Iftar timings but contrary to the tall claim, the peopel have been left with no other option but to face the unending suffering of the power outage during Sehr and Iftar timings.” He went on to say that the government should fulfil its claims regarding resolving the issue of power loadshedding.

He maintained that Sasta Ramazan bazaars were just eyewash as substandard items were being sold in these bazaars at higher prices.

He said the rulers should take practical steps for welfare of the people instead of making false promises.

Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf  spokesman Shafqat Mehmood MNA, speaking on this occasion, said his party had emerged as the second largest political party of the country in the general elections and claimed it would sweep the local bodies polls in the entire province by taking lead in the provincial capital.
