On duty traffic police officials were beaten up publically by some local lawyers who were intercepted by the victims for violating traffic rules in Daska city’s Kutchery Chow on Wednesday.

According to the FIR (No. 458/2014) lodged at Daska City police station by Sub Inspector Muhammad Arshad Under Sections 147, 149, 186, 225, 279, 353 and 382 PPC, he and other policemen were on official duty at Kutchery Chowk. When they stopped an accused for violating the one-way traffic system and inquired into the matter, the accused became infuriated and misbehaved with and abused the policemen. He introduced himself as a lawyer and called some of his other colleagues there by making them a telephone call.

The FIR revealed that five lawyers Suleman Sandhu, Asad Ishaq,  Ali Qais, Aamir Bajwa and Agha Sehar armed with wooden sticks and hockeys, along with their seven unknown companions reached the spot and started beating the police officials including SI Arshad, Constable Zaheer Nawaz  and others. The attackers bashed the officials and snatched official wireless sets and mobile phones from them. A police contingent was called in to rescue the traffic police officials. 

Later, the accused fled away from the spot by threatening the policemen with dire consequences.
