KHANEWAL-An accused was killed in a shootout with police when the deceased along with his accomplices was busy looting passengers near Mian Channu, a police official claimed on Wednesday.

DPO Rana Ayyaz Saleem also said that the district police had busted a four-member criminal gang, active since long in the area.

On a tip-off that Faisal Alias Wain along with his gang was busy looting travellers on Mian Channu bypass, the police rushed there and the accused started firing on the police party. In retaliation, Faisal alias Wain was injured seriously and later succumbed to the injuries on the spot while his three companion managed to escape, he added.

The deceased was wanted by the police of various districts; he was involved and booked in various cases of murder, dacoity and kidnapping for ransom.  He has also said that a heinous criminal gang was active in the area in dacoity, murder and other criminal activities. The police arrested four member of the gang including, Muhammad Iqbal of Chak 122/15L Mian Channu, Muhammad Waqas of 159/10R Jahanian, Hamid of 163/10 and Abid of 147/10R while Muhammad Aslam of 173/10R is still at large.

The DPO also claimed recovery of booty, including weapons, ammunition, cell phone, motor cycle, ovens and other miscellaneous items from the accused. He lauded the policemen for their effort to capture the gang.
