BAHAWALPUR -Hundreds of mills workers protested on Chowk Fawara against the mills administration over non-payment of their salaries for the last four months.

They were carrying placards and banners on which slogans were stated against Gulistan Textile Mills. They told the media while protesting that 1,500 workers who had been working on payroll have not been paid their salaries for the last four months. They added that their stoves had become cold and the situation had led them to starvation while their children had been discharged from the schools due to the non payment of fees.

They further said that in this matter they have consulted the labour court but no one there listened to them. They added that it looked that Shahbaz Sharif was chief minister of Lahore only. They demanded that the Punjab chief minister, DCO Bahawalpu and Commissioner Bahawalpur should take notice of the situation.

A mills representative told the media that it was near bankruptcy due to the worst loadshedding. He added that only with uninterrupted supply of electricity, they would be able to pay the workers. After hours of protest, the DCO reached the spot and negotiated with the protesters. He assured them that their demands will be fulfilled on which they dispersed.
