LAHORE - Secretary Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Punjab Najam Ahmed Shah paid a surprise visit to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital yesterday.

The secretary, who was accompanied by Deputy Secretary Administration Raja Mansoor, suspended Deputy Medical Superintendent Dr Atif Hanif for his absence from duty. He took notice of absence of doctors at Surgical and Urology Outdoor and ordered disciplinary action.

Dr Hina, Senior Registrar Gynae, was also absent from duty. Nobody was available in X-rays room and patients were waiting in long queues.

Najam Ahmed Shah also visited Orthopaedic Ward where the patients were facing difficulties due to faulty air conditioning system.

During his visit, the patients complained that the ECG technician was demanding bribe for test. The overall cleanliness situation was not also satisfactory.

On receiving the information of the secretary’s visit, Medical Superintendent Dr Nauman Matloob also reached the OPD.

Najam Ahmed Shah took serious notice of out of order air conditioners and immediately ordered transfer of Dr Khalid Bin Aslam, DMS Repairs and Maintenance, to DHQ Teaching Hospital Dera Ghazi Khan on administrative grounds. He appreciated doctors present in the Medical Outdoor.

Mr Shah also ordered the MS to submit an explanation for improper administrative control. The medical superintendent has been asked to furnish reply within three days. In case of unsatisfactory reply, proceedings under PEEDA Act 2006 will be initiated against him.
