Rawalpindi - A top official of Rawal Town Municipal Administration has been suspended for embezzling funds of the officials who performed duties during local bodies’ elections, reliable sources told The Nation yesterday. A notification in this regard has also been issued by the government, they said.

According to sources, Secretary Local Government Board conducted a detailed inquiry against the Town Municipal Officer (TMO) Rawal Town Meer Akmal on charges of pocketing the money issued by the government to pay the officials who performed election duties.

During the inquiry, the TMO found guilty and the board recommended strict departmental action against him, sources said. In light of the inquiry report, Secretary Local Government Board suspended the TMO. Rawal Town Municipal Administration (RTMA) Administrator Imran Qureshi could not be approached for his comments on the issue.
