ISLAMABAD - In order to settle the issue of delayed projects in NHA, which are causing huge loss to national exchequer, National Highway Authority (NHA) is likely to hold board meeting today (Monday). The meeting which is likely to be chaired by NHA Chairman Altaf Chaudhary may also take up matter regarding the stalled projects which are causing heavy loss to national kitty. The issue regarding PSDP allocation issue as last year allocation of Rs44,637.034 million against the demand of Rs600,338.970million is allegedly caused delay in important projects, Communication Ministry sources told TheNation. It would not be out of place to mention here that due to delay in project the cost was increased manifold. The work on Islamabad-Murree Expressway, which links Islamabad with Muzaffarabad and Chakoti border area of Pakistan Occupied Kashmir started during the last tenure of Nawaz Sharif with an initial cost estimate of Rs3 billion. Sources said that NHA had faced liability in billions, which also played contributory role in delaying main projects including Gwadar, Islamabad-Murree Expressway (IME) and other. It may be mentioned here that NHA had to pay Rs4 billion to FWO whereas in recent past over Rs2 billion has been paid. About Gwadar connectivity, NHA officials were optimistic that it would be possible till 2012 again if the liability of Rs2 billion was paid. When contacted, NHA Chairman Altaf Chaudhary said that important matter regarding the road project would be deliberated in the meting. He further said that NHA was running short of funds for completing important projects.
