LAHORE Cherat Cement came from behind to stun Lahore Chatkhara 5-4 in the final of the Winter Polo Cup at the Lahore Polo Clubs Aibak ground on Sunday. In the battle between Lahore Polo Clubs legendary Alam brothers, Qublai of Cherat Cement team had the last laugh in a contest otherwise dominated by Shamyls Lahore Chatkhara. On another level, perhaps it was contest between talent and discipline - and the latter prevailed. Shah Shamyl Alam opened the match with long-lofted shot, something he is really good at. Qublais showed his class in what he is beat at: two 60-yarders with great precision. In the second chukker, Shamyl added two goals first a 40-yard penalty and then a field goal for Lahore Chatkhara and his team now led the match 3-2. After a barren third chukker, Shamyl took the opportunity to hit an undefended 30-yarder and his team was now 4-2 up with just minutes before the whistle. But Qublai had other ideas: he continued to make aggressive moves and was duly rewarded with two penalties. Following a 30-yarder, he made one off a 60-yarder, hitting which he has mastered over a period of time. Tied at 4-4, Mir Shoaib, playing at number four, got the ball from the middle and after a successful long chase, hit the winning goal. Earlier in the third position match, RIJAs defeated Adisseo by 8 1/2 to 6. Asif Tiwana scored goals for the winning side.
