ISLAMABAD - Following release of Myanmars Opposition Leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, Pakistan hailed the decision and hoped Myanmar would continue to tread its sovereign path towards progress and development in the ASEAN region. We welcome the release of Ms Aung San Suu Kyi as a positive step. We are confident it will contribute towards Myanmars national reconciliation process. Pakistan enjoys traditionally warm and friendly relations with Myanmar. We wish the friendly people and government of Myanmar may continue to tread their sovereign path towards progress and development in the ASEAN region. Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Sunday. Myanmar officials on Saturday released Tin Oo, a leading dissident who helped found the countrys National League for Democracy opposition party along with Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi in 1988. The NLD and Ms Suu Kyi won Myanmars last national elections two years later, but the government ignored the results and eventually imprisoned many senior NLD leaders, including Ms. Suu Kyi and Tin Oo, the NLD vice chairman.
