LAHORE – Agriculture Minister Malik Ahmad Ali on Wednesday blamed the federal government for creating an artificial crisis of fertilizer in the country.

“An artificial crisis of fertilizer was created and 200,000 tons fertilizer was imported, over which Rs.600 commission on every bag, was gobbled up by the federal government,” held the minister while addressing wheat seed distribution ceremony in DG Khan.

A statement issued quoted the minister as saying: “Federal government is bent upon destroying the agriculture sector deliberately in order to help their friends. Ahmad Ali distributed free wheat seeds among the flood-stricken farmers on behalf of Punjab government at wheat procurement center of the Dera Ghazi Khan.

The Minister said that the Punjab government was distributing 118,000 bags of quality seed, among 25,000 food affected farmers at a cost of Rs240 million. He said that a target of wheat sowing over 190,000 acres had been fixed in the province.
