LAHORE – At least 20,000 policemen will remain on their toes to maintain peace and ensure foolproof security in the provincial metropolis during the holy month of Muharram-ul-Haram. City police will utilize all available resources to provide protection to Majalis, processions and mourners during the holy month.

This was decided during a high-level meeting held to review security arrangements in Lahore ahead of Muharram on Wednesday. CCPO Lahore Muhammad Aslam Tareen, DIG (Operations) Muhammad Tahir Rai and other senior officers attended the peace committee meeting to finalize a comprehensive security plan.

According to the security plan, at least 5850 Majalis and processions would take place across the City while the police have divided the Majalis and processions into three A, B, and C categories. The divisional SPs would also take the local religious scholars, Ulemas and members of the peace committee into confidence before deploying police in identified localities.

Addressing the meeting, the CCPO said that everyone would have to follow the code of ethics to promote harmony during the holy month and the violators would be dealt with iron hands.
