ISLAMABAD – The Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources has decided to send the chairmen of the boards of directors (BoD) of two state-owned gas utilities, the SNGPL and SSGCL, on packing, it has been learnt. Sources privy to this development told The Nation on Wednesday that the ministry had peremptorily decided to remove Misbahur Rehman, chairman of the BoD of the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, and Saleem Abbas Jillani, chairman of the BoD of the Sui Southern Gas Company Limited. The ministry had sent Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf a summary to get his approval to this effect, added the sources, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. According to them, both the chairmen were often not on the same page as regards decision-making in the ministry. Besides, the two officials made the ministry to face the numerous difficulties and embarrassment, as they hardly fulfilled their responsibilities. It was felt that their working was not in accordance to the sweet will of the baboos in the ministry, added the sources. The two chairmen – Rehman and Jillani – are largely considered intimate friends of former premier Yousuf Raza Gilani.
