LAHORE – The Lahore Waste Management Company has finalized its plan to keep Lahore clean in the sacred month of Muharram. The LWMC operations department has prepared extensive maps of the areas where sitting and processions are likely to be taken place.

All such areas will be paid special attention and cleanliness of roads, streets and places near Imambargah will be taken care of specially.

A spokesperson said three special camps of the company will be set up in Data Ganj Baksh Town (Central Model School Ground), Allam Iqbal Town (Thokar Niaz Baig Chowk) and Raza Abad (Johar Town) from 1st of Muharram to 10th of Muharram. The objective is to maintain overall cleanliness by efficiently collecting and transporting waste so that Ashura is observed in a clean environment enabling the observers performing their religious rituals comfortably.

On this occasion, waste containers will be focus point and will be emptied as per requirement. The routes of Zuljinah processions will be kept clear of waste and limestone will be used to give streets and roads a cleaner look. Duties on union councils and zone levels have also been assigned before the arrival of the holy month so as to ensure waste free environment.

The holidays falling in first 10 days of Muharram have been called off for all field employees of LWMC and operations managers and GM too will remain in field even on 9th and 10th of Muharram to supervise the field teams’ performance.

The cleanliness services will be offered round the clock till Ashura and helpline 1139 is also on alert to tackle maximum complaints regarding solid waste from the city.
