LAKKI MARWAT – The local police authorities on Wednesday approached the bigwigs of district administration to seek their help and assistance for ensuring maintenance of complete peace and harmony on Youm-e-Ashur.

The District Police Officer had reportedly requested the District Coordination Officer to ban sitting of people on rooftops and order closure of shops along the route of mourners’ procession under section 144 Cr.P.C, it was learnt reliably.

An official source said that police had formulated a foolproof security plan for Muharram processions and other relevant activities of Shia community. He said that the security plan would be implemented in letter and spirit to ensure peaceful atmosphere during the holy month.

He said that policemen in civvies would also be deployed in the routes of processions. “Apart from that vigilance and checking on all exist and entrance points of urban locality will be enhanced”, he told.

“Besides providing security to the mourning processions, cops will perform duties round the clock to protect Imambargahs as well as mosques along the route of processions”, he maintained. He also said that all the streets and lanes leading to the routes of procession would be plugged.

He said that police personnel would protect the processions from front, rear, right and left sides besides policemen would remain present on rooftops as per requirement.

He said that district headquarters hospital’s medical superintendent had been asked to ensure presence of medical officer along with paramedics, medicines and an ambulance vehicle with the processions.

He added that Lakki tehsil municipal administration would ensure availability of drinking waster, fire brigade and streetlights in the routes of processions.

He said that members of peace committee would accompany the procession besides the local police authorities would meet clerics and ulema to seek their help for maintaining peace during Muharram.

Man killed over old enmity

A young man was killed over a dispute on the busiest Bannu-DI Khan road near Naurang town in the jurisdiction of Shaheed Asmatullah Khan police station on Wednesday.

According to details, ne Jamroze Khan, father of the deceased, told the police in his preliminary report that he along with his brother Shamroze Khan and son Ihsanullah were waiting for a passenger vehicle near Ameer Jan brick kiln on Bannu-DI Khan road to go to judicial complex to attend court Wednesday morning.

Suddenly, Noor Ali, armed with a double barrel shotgun, and Iqbal armed with a 30 bore pistol, appeared from the canal side and opened fires at his son Ihsanullah killing him on the spot”, he said.

He said that the killers escaped after committing the crime. The police registered a case and began investigation into the murder incident. 

80 proclaimed offenders arrested

Meanwhile, the city police arrested 80 proclaimed offenders during surprise raids in last 24 hours ahead of the start of holy month of Muharram. “The arrests were made in surprise raids over the hideouts of outlaws in Tajbikhel, Gandi Umar Chikar, Titterkhel and Chuharkhel”, said an official.

He said that the police also netted 24 suspects and shifted them to different police stations for interrogation and identification purpose. He added that actions against anti social elements and criminals had been intensified on the directives of district police officer Muhammad Idrees Khan.
