PESHAWAR - At least 30 suspected terrorists were killed in fresh airstrikes by fighter jets in North Waziristan Agency on Friday as part of the ongoing Zarb-e-Azb Operation against militants in the region.

According to a statement issued by Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR), a media wing of Pakistan Army, militant hideouts were pounded in Datta Khel area of North Waziristan Agency on Friday.

It said that in precision airstrikes on terrorists’ hideouts, at least 30 militants were killed. Foreign militants were among those killed in the airstrikes, the ISPR added. Besides that, several militant hideouts were also destroyed in the action.

The ongoing full-scale military operation Zarb-e-Azb was launched by the Pakistan Army on June 15 this year in response to a bloody raid by insurgents on Karachi Airport, an attack which ended peace talks between the government and the Taliban.

Militants have taken shelter in Khyber after fleeing strongholds in North Waziristan, and troops launched military operation in Khyber in October. The army says it has killed more than 1,100 militants and lost around 100 soldiers since the start of the June operation.  Besides, over one-million tribesmen have left their homes and shifted to saferer places in downtowns of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.


In tehsil Shabqadar of Charsadda district, militants blew up a girls middle school with explosives in the wee hours of Friday.

Around five kilogrammes of explosives were planted inside a girls middle school in Sro Kalay area, on the border between Charsadda and Mohmand Agency. The explosive material went off with a bang. Two rooms, main gate and a verandah of the school were destroyed completely. Luckily, no one was present in the school when blast occurred so there was no casualty or injury. Police rushed to the scene soon after the explosion and launched a search operation to nab the culprits. However, no arrest could be made in this regard till filing of this report.

This was the 37th government school to have been blown up in the locality in five years. In the adjacent Mohmand Agency, around 150 schools have been targeted in six years. Majority of the destroyed schools are to be reconstructed yet.
