Former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) president and independent candidate from NA-149 Makhdoom Javed Hashmi claimed on Tuesday that the PTI’s Multan public meeting was an electoral procession and not a protest.

Addressing a news conference here at his residence, he added that the procession would have been held after October 16 if it had been part of PTI’s agitation. He claimed that the Multan public meeting was organized on special demand of Shah Mehmood Qureshi. “I am astonished on PTI’s policy. On one hand they have boycotted election and they express no-confidence on existing election commission while on the other hand they are supporting an independent candidate. It’s a dual policy,” he maintained.

He said that the speaker National Assembly should play his constitutional role and quickly proceed after receiving resignations. He said that the speaker started confirming the resignations which delayed the process.

He anticipated that the turnover in NA-149 by-election would be high, although it remained low in conventional by elections. He declared that besides the PML-N, many other parties including JUP (Noorani), IJT and Anjuman Tahaffuz Azadari supported him. He said that the day of October 16, would dawn with a new hope for democracy and the problems being faced by the residents of NA-149 would be resolved. He declared that he would strive for changing the fate of the residents of NA-149 in the assembly.

He said that whenever he quit any party, he made this decision at a time when the party was at its peak. “In fact, parties give up their pro-public policies when their stock goes high. It always hurts me and I quit the party,” he claimed. He said that the top priority of the government should be eliminating price hike, lawlessness and unemployment besides bringing the prices of electricity, gas and petrol down.  “No one can stop the government from completing its term, if it works on these topics and offers relief to the public,” he declared.
