ISLAMABAD - The head of Ansar-ul-Umma Maulana Fazlur Rahman Khalil on Tuesday strongly rejected all claims of terming him a global terrorist, saying that all these allegations are baseless and based on enmity with Islam.

“The US has recently added me in the list of Specially Designated Global Terrorists (SDGTs) and slapped certain sanctions on me...I will challenge this allegation at international level by consulting my lawyers,” said Maulana Fazlur Rahman Khalil while addressing a press conference here.

He demanded that the Pakistan government should summon American ambassador and register strong protest for terming him a global terrorist without issuing any prior notice or charge sheet. “I am ready to face it in international courts,” he said adding that they named him terrorist for his tilt on Kashmir issue.

“They want to push me behind the mountains but they should keep in mind that I will face them at any stage,” said Khalil adding that they will keep supporting Kashmir cause. “I want to put some questions to the US about accusations against me. Had the US fulfilled legal obligations of its own laws, international and human rights before declaring me terrorist? Had I either been summoned in any court of law or issued any notice,” he asked. To a question about the unprovoked firing at LoC, he said US might have asked India for unprovoked firing at LoC which caused death of civilians. “This firing incident happened after Indian PM’s visit from US,” he said linking the matter with connivance of both the countries.

About the Indian PM Modi, he said US has double standards to deal with the issue. “Modi was welcomed in US after becoming Prime Minister as earlier US authorities had registered cases against him,” he added.  He said that it was the responsibility of the government of Pakistan to defend the constitutional rights of its citizens.

“I have always extended political and moral support to Kashmiris. We have also played a role for the struggle of Kashmiris. The support was not for appeasing anyone,” he said. “We consider sacrifice of our life and property as an obligation for the liberation of Kashmir,” he added.
