LAHORE - The Lahore High Court Tuesday restrained the election tribunal from giving the final decision on petition challenging the elections results of PP-78 and adjourned further proceedings till next week.

As the proceedings commenced, Member Punjab Assembly Rashida Yaqoob through her counsel told the judge that the elections of PP-78 had been challenged before an election tribunal.

The counsel submitted that she was elected as member of the Punjab Assembly from District Jhang and her opponent candidate Maulana Ahmad Ludhyanvi challenged her victory before an election tribunal.

But the petition through which the election results of PP-78 were challenged contained unverified documents, he said. He said the petitioner made fake allegations and could not prove them.

The election tribunal cannot decide such application as per the law, the counsel argued. He prayed the court to bar the Election Tribunal from giving the final decision on a petition filed challenging his candidacy.

After hearing the arguments, the court accepted her plea and barred the election tribunal from giving the final verdict on the petition. Proceedings adjourned till the next week.
