PESHAWAR - The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Barrister Masood Kausar has said that completion of new under-construction bridge over Indus River at Khushalgarh carries great importance in the national priorities of the government and would prove province hub of economic investment.

He said for socio-economic uplift every possible step will be taken to ensure sustenance in provision of financial resources to materialize it without any hindrance. Talking during a briefing by NHA at the site of the project, the Governor said, progress achieved so far in respect of this project is indeed a great source of encouragement and there is a need to maintain tempo. Eng. Yousaf Ali, Member Construction, Eng. Fazal Nawab Khattak, General Manager and Eng. Nadeem Hussain Malik, Project Director of National Highway Authority briefed the Governor about their achievements.

Referring to pace of work on project, Governor described 24pc progress up till now as against the planned figures of 7pc, a great achievement on the part of authority and said that this indeed has become possible due to the collective role and contribution of all concerned. He particularly paid rich tributes to the Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and Federal Minster for Communication, Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan for their keen interest in making this possible.

Referring to the expected monthly income of Rs.40 millions on completion of the bridge to NHA, he said, beyond doubt the over all socio-economic impact of the project not only for the province but at the national level too, would be much more than it, which also includes paving way for establishment of an oil refinery in the region. Such like sites, he said, carry a lot of potential from tourism point of view and there is need to exploit this aspect as well.

Meanwhile, the Governor was informed that the project was scheduled to be completed in December, 2013 and keeping in view the pace of progress, the desired target is expected to be achieved five months ahead of the original schedule.

He ensuing four months are highly crucial for the project from weather conditions and hectic efforts are underway. The Governor was further informed that work on rehabilitation of terrorism-hit bridges at Darra Adam Khel as well as acquisition of gadgets for restoration of lightening system in the Kotal Tunnel is also in progress which is expected to be completed during next couple of months.

The Governor handed over cheque of Rs 0.15 million each to 32 deserving women under Waseela-e-Rozgar Scheme of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Income Support Programme for establishing their own enterprises.

Talking on this occasion, the Governor highly appreciated the courage of the women in their struggle not only to sustain at their own feet but also generate financial support for their families. This, in fact, he said, is one of the efforts to materialize the aspirations of the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and there is a need that the beneficiaries of the programme should make the utilization of the resources in true spirit of the programme. The women folk, he said, are also the worst sufferers of the terrorism and militancy oriented after effects and this scheme will also be a great help to them in looking after their family members.

He also wished success to the women business enterprisers and expressed the confidence that they would be fully patronized and guided in future too.
