Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has said that the government of Pakistan People Party undertook unprecedented massive development work in Azad Jammu & Kashmir during last four years, which speaks of the democratic government’s commitment to the welfare and development of people.

The Prime Minister expressed these views while talking to Chaudhry Abdul Majeed, the Premier of AJ&K, who called on him at the PM House on Monday.

The Prime Minister recalled his visit to Mirpur Azad Kashmir last month where he attended the groundbreaking ceremonies of Meeran Shah bridge and a new campus of Mirpur Science and Technology University, which would cumulatively incur a cost of around Rs. 6 billion rupees.

He said that completion of these mega projects would bring about socio-economic change in the lives of the people. He said that the Meeran Shah Bridge, which is the biggest bridge in history of AJ&K, would shorten the travel distance between Mirpur and Islamgarh besides promoting tourism in the area.

The Prime Minister further said that the establishment of the air port at Mirpur would facilitate overseas Kashmiris who had been doing tremendous service to the country by sending large amounts of precious foreign exchange.

Chaudhry Abdul Majeed, Prime Minister of Azad Jammu & Kashmir, thanked the Prime Minister for announcing mega projects during his visit to AJ&K last month on behalf of the government and people of AJ&K. He said that these projects were long-standing demand of the people, which the democratic government fulfilled. The operation of the new airport in AJ&K would greatly ease the hardships of the overseas Kashmiris to travel back home comparatively quite frequently.

AJ&K Premier requested Prime Minister Gilani to visit ‘Att Makam’ to inaugurate a hospital equipped with state of the art facilities. The Prime Minister promised that he would visit AJ&K in near future.
