ISLAMABAD  - Sindh women retained 15th National Women Netball Championship 2016 title after overcoming strong Army challenge in the final played here at Hamidi Hall, Pakistan Sports Complex Friday.

While Army men retained their title, after Wapda players heroics fail to land them title for the second year in running.

Inter Provincial Coordination Minister Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada was the chief guest on the occasion, while DG PSB Akhtar Ganjera, Director Media Shazia Ejaz, Assistant Director Hostels Malik Imtiaz Hussain along with others were also present on the occasion.

It was a highly charged final played between Sindh and Army girls. Army kept pressure from the start and never allowed SIndh breathing space. Although Sindh managed to retain title but it was not a convincing victory. Sindh were always in trouble as they never enjoyed comfortable lead in all the 4 quarters of the match. Sindh eventually won the final 28-24 thanks mainly to superb defending. Quratul Ain, Nayab Razia, Hina Rafique, Humaira and Anum Salam showed outstanding performances for SIndh. In the earlier third position match, Wapda beat Punjab 28-17. Rizwana Arshad, Ume Laila Kulsoom and Sherish Nawaz played well for Wapda.

In the men’s final, Army overcame a spirited Wapda challenge. Army although led all the 4 quarters but they never felt secure as their lead was hardly 2 goals in three quarters. It was the 4th and last quarter, where Army finally managed to take comfortable lead and won the final 30-24. Abdul Haque, M Zahid and Khursheed Ahmed played well for the winners. For third position PAF beat Sindh 36-33. M Akhtar, Zohaib and Preim Shehzad played well for the winners.

Later Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, distributed the trophies, shields, medals and certificates among the players and teams.
