ISLAMABAD - Mauritius President Dr Bibi Ameenah Firdaus Gurib-Fakim will visit Pakistan from April 17-20, the foreign ministry said yesterday.

She had been invited by President Mamnoon Hussain for the visit for talks on bilateral matters, the ministry added.

“During the visit, a meeting will be held between President Mamnoon Hussain and the visiting President, where matters of mutual interests as well as regional and international importance will come under discussion,” it said. It added: “During the visit, the two sides will explore the possibilities of further strengthening existing bilateral ties in various fields of common interest with particular focus on economic and trade relations.” “The visit will also provide an opportunity for resuming leadership level contacts between the two countries,” the foreign ministry said.

The visiting leader will also visit Karachi where she will receive private business leaders, Chairman the state-owned Trade Development of Pakistan and representatives of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industries for separate meetings.

She will also pay a visit to mausoleum of the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah, and undertake a tour of the Karachi University.

Minister for Planning, Development and Reform, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, Minister of State for National Health Services, Coordination and Regulation Saira Afzal Tarrar and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi will call on the visiting President during her stay.

The foreign ministry said Pakistan and Mauritius enjoyed close and cordial relations which were based on mutual identity of views on regional and global issues.
