PESHAWAR - Despite tall claims of PTI government to bring transparency in the appointment process in government departments, merit has been allegedly violated in Ayub Medical College and Ayub Teaching Hospital Abbottabad where appointments have been made against the NTS merit list and without zonal allocation of seats.

Reliable sources told The Nation that a total of 48 posts including post of Medical Officer, Pharmacist, and Lecturers were advertised by Ayub Teaching Hospital and Ayub Medical College Abbotabad.

Around 315 candidates appeared in screening test of National Testing Service for medical officers, 134 students appeared in the test for lecturer while 1089 applicants appeared for the post of 14 Pharmacist.

Instead of zonal allocation of posts, all the candidates have been appointed from Hazara Division which falls under zone five while applicants of other zones which included zone one, zone two, zone three and zone four have been entirely ignored despite passing screening tests with high margin, sources said.

One of the applicants Ziaudin, resident of district Banu who belonged to zone four and secured 5th position in NTS for the post of medical officer has not been called for interview, and he has been replaced by another applicant of Hazara on serial number 82.

The selection committee which was comprised of Hospital Director Sadiqur Rahman and Medical Director preferred the appointment of those who belonged to Hazara and violated merit during the process of interview.

The rules says without the approval of BOG Chairman, the hospital could not appoint a doctor while two member selection committee has hijacked the entire process of appointment and committed gross violation in the merit. When asked the Health Minister Sharam Khan Tarakai, he said that provincial health department has handed over the matter to independent board of governors and now it depends upon them to appoint the applicants. He said that he is sure that board of governors and its chairman after MTI Act will not violate merit and will carry out the entire process in transparent manner.

Earlier to this, one of Chairman of the Board of Governors of Ayub Teachin Hospital, Rashid has resigned and now the existing Chairman is Javed Pani has been ignored in the entire process and the appointments have been made without his approval, sources said.
