ISLAMABAD - Former Pakistan Test fast bowler Sarfraz Nawaz lashed out at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for not waiting for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif before taking major decisions.

Talking to The Nation, Sarfraz said: “The PCB should have waited for Prime Minister’s return from UK, where he had underwent for treatment. How could Shahryar Khan and others, who were installed by Prime Minister, give such childish statement that government should mind its own business and the board was an autonomous body. The matter of the fact is that these people have destroyed Pakistan cricket and are solely responsible for the Pakistan team’s debacle.”

Sarfraz said Wasim and Ramiz Raja plotting to appoint foreign coach to get the desired results, while tainted persons, who were nominated by Justice (R) Qayyum in his report, were given portfolios in the PCB to get positive results.

He said: “I am quite astonished that the PCB couldn’t find even a single past great, whose services might be hired for important role in the PCB. The board is in a hurry to get their right man at the helm of affairs. People like Rashid Latif, Abdul Qadir, Mohsin Hassan Khan and Aamir Sohail should be involved as chairman and coach of the national team. They are honest and enjoy a lot of respect not only amongst players and masses but also have credibility among international community and they are capable enough to restore Pakistan image in cricketing world.”

“I want to bring into the notice of Fawad Ahmed, who is given the task by Prime Minister to launch detailed inquiry into the PCB affairs and submit report to him. The PCB should be barred from taking any major or even minor decision until the PM returns home after recovering from illness, as I fear they will appoint tainted persons, who may destroy Pakistan cricket and it will take years to get over that downslide,” he added.

Sarfraz demand that the PCB must not hire persons like Moin Khan, who had major role in Indian Cricket League and was named in fixing allegations. “Moin’s past stint is also well known to each and every Pakistani what he had done when he was chief selector and was caught red-handed in a casino. Inzamam was also mentioned in the ICL and Justice (R) Qayyum report, instead of hiring same old used bullets, the PM should take over the board and immediately sack the current set up and appoint an ad-hoc on it to run board affairs in a befitting manner.

“Pakistan cricket can’t afford such blunders anymore, as already too much time has been wasted and these persons were given too much room and liberty so any further delay in this regard can harm Pakistan cricket and it will take many years to recover from this disaster,” Sarfraz concluded.
