LAHORE - A Division Bench of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday granted bail to Rana Ilyas, former SHO Sadar, Sialkot, in the case registered last year on the charges of public killing of two brothers in the jurisdiction of his police station. Headed by Chief Justice Ijaz Ahmad Chaudhry, the Bench directed the petitioner to furnish surety bond in the sum of Rs 200,000 and two personal sureties for his release on bail. The petitioner was held accused of the crime in the supplementary statement. The investigations had charged the petitioner for failing in the discharge of his legal obligations hence factored committal of the brutal murder of Mughees Sajjad and Muneeb Sajjad and also that the murder took place in his presence and he failed to check it. The petitioner however has contradicted the charges. Previously the petitioner filed a post-arrest bail which was dismissed. Later he filed a plea before the LHC which was disposed of with the direction to the trial court to conclude hearing of the case as soon as possible. Through the present petition he contended that the trial was not likely to be concluded in near future as only 13 of the 41 statement of the witnesses had been recorded so far while the judge of the trial court had also been transferred. He further submitted that a co-accused, former District Police Officer Waqar Chohan had been released on bail.
