LAHORE In keeping with his envious stay in the Kot Lakhpat Jail, American killer Raymond Davis celebrated the Valentines night in the company of a woman the jail officials were quick to term his spouse. Insiders said the woman was brought in the jail ambulance after the nightfall. The pickup was parked in front of the superintendents office, and it stayed there the whole night after dropping the woman, sources added. Sources said the jail authorities tried to keep it a hush-hush affair, but they forgot to unfurl the curtains of a couple of barracks. Dropping Davis love buddy, the vehicle was again parked near the office, said a jail official, pseudonym Bholi Shah. Bholi Shah said that when other prisoners came to know about the celebration of the night by Davis, they sarcastically demanded the duty staff to extend them the same concession. In order to curb media coverage, the jail administration on Tuesday collected the National Identity Cards (NICs) and jotted down the mobile numbers of the jail officials deployed to guard the American. Shah said three to four vehicles of the US Consulate arrived on Tuesday, carrying food for Raymond. Millions of rupees are being spent on his security while on the other hand, the jail administration is reluctant to repair a gas pipeline for the inmates mess. As a result, half-cooked food is being served to more than 3,700 prisoners, he said. Insiders claimed a CD player and a new TV set was given to Davis on Tuesday. Lahore Region DIG Shahid Saleem Malik and Superintendent Mian Mushtaq Awan handed over the items, sources added. Furthermore, most of the visitors complained the jail authorities were demanding extra money from every visitor. The jail officials arent accepting a penny less Rs 500 per visitor, up from Rs 200 before the arrival of Davis, the father of a prisoner said. He said the jail staff stopped him at the first checkpost and didnt let him proceed since he didnt have the extra money on him. Provincial Prisons Minister Malik Iqbal Chanar, IG Prisons Kokab Nadeem Warraich and Malik Mushtaq Awan did not take phone calls for versions. Interestingly, well established insiders claimed that Raymond Davis watched live Press conference of Senator John Kerry here at about 11 pm on the screen of the laptop provided to him by the US Consulate. 'He also engaged on his mobile phone with someone else likely from the US Consulate besides watching word to word Press conference of John Kerry on the laptop, they added. According to them, the Deputy Inspector General Prisons (DIG) Lahore Region Mirza Shahid Saleem Baig was sitting besides the accused Davis when he was watching the Press conference. After the Press conference of John Kerry was over, Davis was speaking on his cell phone and uttering loudly 'Sir Sir, I am thankful to you and pleasant to see you here in Pakistan, insiders said. They supposed the person on the other side of phone might be Senator John Kerry himself, who might be inquiring about the health of American national. The DIG, however, while contradicting the news items appeared in a section of the Press denied that none of things including a computer, mobile phone, fridge, DVD, TV or any other facility was provided to Raymond. On the other hand, those prisoners who had lodged a protest demo in their barracks against Raymonds act of disturbance over early awakening by the jail officials, said a new TV and CD player were provided to Davis here on Tuesday by the DIG himself. They even claimed the DIG should be asked to swear on the issue that did him personally not hand over these things to Raymond? They told that the security in the Jail was further being beefed up due to what they claim the likely visit of Senator John Kerry in Kot Lakhpat Jail.
