M Haroon Siddiqui LAHORE The battle field for Worlds fourth largest sporting event, ICC Cricket World Cup 2011, is all set to kick off from Sunday as India will take on Bangladesh in the opening match of the tournament. Who will win the 2011 Cricket World Cup trophy as there is no team looking firm favourite despite predictions of cricket pundits and former legend cricketers of the world. The pundits and legends predict that Australia, India, South Africa and England will make to the semi-finals of the mega event but they set aside Pakistan and Sri Lanka. These two sides are very dangerous and can outplay any team on their day. It will be difficult for the other teams to beat Sri Lanka on its home ground. Pakistan is familiar with the Sri Lankan conditions and can upset any side of the world on turning tracks. Lets have a look on the team participating in the event. Pakistan, an unlucky team that loss his attacking duo of Asif and Aamir, one of the best duo in the world, in spot-fixing case. The team will surely miss them in the mega event. The pace attack will be spearhead by Shoaib Akhtar and assisted by Umar Gul and Wahab Riaz along with spinners Saeed Ajmal and Abdul Rehman. Afridi, Hafeez and Razzaq will assist them which make Pakistan attack strong on turning wickets. Pakistan is an outfit that can destroy any side of the world on their day. Pakistan fielding is poor and they must improve in this department of game if they do that then they can qualify for the semi-final then they can win the World Cup as well. Australia, who is defending their title for the fourth time should try to win the event but unfortunately the Aussies are facing injuries problem as their dependable batsman Mike Hussey pulled out at the eleventh hour due to injury. Hussey showed his dissent over his pull out. Australia best spinner Hauritz also dropped due to injury. The Aussies seem fatigue and tired after the long Ashes series against England. They lost Test series but won one-day series 6-1 against this the only plus point that goes in their favour. The same position is with England as their classy batsman Eoin Morgan dropped due to injury. He was a player that could demolish the opponents through his classy batting. Fast bowler Ajmal Shahzad and Chris Broad were also pulled out due to injuries. England have to work hard if they want to win the world. The only unlucky that reached three time in the final but also all matches. South African also facing injury problem as their key all-rounder Jacques Kallis playing in the team as a batsman while he will be unable to bowl during the mega event because of injury problem. Hashim Amla, Smith, AB de Villiers are the dangerous player and they can put South Africa in front. India team having big names, Sehwag, Tendulkar, Yusuf Pathan, Dhoni, Virat Kohli and others, would be under immense crowd pressure. If they held their nerves they might win the title in their home grounds and conditions. Sri Lanka have also good players like Dilshan, Sangakkara, Jayawardene, Samaraveera and many others, if they play according to their potential they can also upset any side of the world. Muralitharan and Herath are the best spinners of the world, can demolish any side at any time and any where in the world. They are also a candidate for the title. It is hard to predict how the Black Caps will perform in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2011, as their previous performances have been below par. Their poor and unfortunate form will potentially weaken their chances in the mega event starting 19 February, 2011. New Zealand has good players in their ranks and if the team can perform well as a unit, they have the potential to beat any other team in the tournament. Bangladesh having services of Tamim Iqbal, Ashraful and Shakib ul Hassan, can also surprise any side of the world. The Bengal Tigers improved a lot and in near future they would become a danger for cricket world. Ireland, the minnows of cricket, they thrashed out Pakistan in the opening round of the 2007 World Cup, can also case major upset. Zimbabwe have also an improved side and can affect the any teams position. Kenya is still struggling and they would take some time to make their impact in the cricket world. The lady luck smile on which team as speculations and predictions would be ended with the final to be played on April 2 final in Mumbai.
