PESHAWAR - Senior PML-N leader Saranjam Khan, who resigned recently from the basic membership of the party after an association of half a century with it, has no plan to join any other party. Efforts to pacify him have failed, but Mian Nawaz Sharif has neither accepted nor rejected his resignation, tendered two weeks ago. The veteran leader took the extreme step after getting disappointed with the appointments of new office-bearers for his district Mardan. He claimed that leaders from many other districts are also not willing to accept the new office-bearers nominated for their areas. Party leaders have become 'political dictators, complained the elderly politician, vowing not to bow to anyone. 'I resisted four military dictators. I didnt give into them; how can I think of bowing to political dictators, he said while talking to The Nation. Saranjam Khan said he would keep himself away from political activities, but did not make clear what he would be doing. He made it clear that he would not participate even in the July 27th meeting of the partys General Council which will elect new office-bearers. Saranjam said in the recently made appointments for districts only blue-eyed and incompetent people have been given responsibilities. 'Most of them have no idea about party structure and cannot write a single line, he said ,adding, they didnt qualify for the party positions. Reservations about such appointments are also being expressed by old office- bearers from Haripur, Dir, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, Mansehra, Karak, Kohistan and other districts, he said. In addition, in some district like Haripur, Mardan and Dir, workers staged protest demos against the new nominations, he added. Senior PML-N leaders Javed Hashmi and Raja Zafarul Haq had contacted the disgruntled leader to pacify him, but they failed to persuade him to change his stance. Saranjam Khan remained central General Secretary of PML-N during 1999 to 2004. Besides, he also served as the provincial General Secretary from 1993 to 1998. The partys senior leader is considered as one of the sincere and loyal leaders of N-League. In his public speeches, he had been alleging that new office-bearers have nothing to do with the party. Most of them, he said, are those who had left the party when it was facing hardships. Insiders stated the appointment of PML-N Mardan district General Secretary Nawabzada Arsla Khan Hoti has annoyed the aged Khan. Arsala has reportedly said that the resignation of Saranjam Khan would not divide the party.
