ISLAMABAD (APP) - A delegation of date growers and exporters have reached Sri Lanka to enhance bilateral trade and to introduce the Pakistani dates of different varieties in the Sri Lankan markets. During their stay in Sri Lanka, the delegation would hold meetings with the Sri Lankan fruit and dry fruit importers to explore the possibilities of enhancing bilateral trade. According to a statement received here Friday, Pakistan is ranked as the second largest exporter and fourth largest producer of dates in the world growing dates over 80,000 hectares of land and producing about 6.5 million metric tons annually. It further said that Pakistan is exporting about 90,000 metric tons dates per year to more than 30 countries around the world including USA, China, India, UK and Germany. Pakistan is the second largest trading partner of Sri Lanka within the South Asian region.
