Oil producing South Sudan has become an independent state as it was promised in a 2005 north-south peace deal to end two decades of civil war. In Northern Sudan and Darfur (a region in western Sudan) most of the people are Muslims, whereas in the Southern Sudan most of the people are Animist and Christian. Now it is hoped that decades-long war will be finished and people of both sides will finally live with peace. MUBASHIR MAHMOOD, Karachi, July 10.
