LAHORE Expressing his grave concern over the law and order situation in Karachi, PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif has said that peace in the city of lights is a national need and serious political and administrative initiatives are required to restore it. In an exclusive talk with daily Nawa-i-Waqt the other day, Nawaz Sharif said the govt had shown criminal negligence in bringing the circumstances of Karachi under control as some personal gains were being achieved by such tactics. All those acts which added fuel to the fire must be investigated, he demanded, adding the concerned authorities should be made responsible for maintaining peace. It was only was possible through eradicating all terror networks and criminals from the city, he added. The former prime minister said the govt had completely failed in maintaining its writ in Karachi and also blamed it for jalloo gherao and strikes due to which the financial hub of the country had completely crumbled. Nawaz Sharif said there was no reason to call the army for restoring peace in Karachi as it was responsibility of the govt and it must be held accountable in this regard. The govt must know whether or not foreign elements were involved in sabotaging the peace of Karachi, and who were the target killers who came out in streets and on rooftops and played the dirty game of blood, the PML-N leader demanded. He said the masses were suffering from corruption, loadshedding price-hike and unemployment while the rulers were indifferent to their problems.
