ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Badminton Federation (Nazar Muhammad Gondal/Imtiaz Gul Group) has filed a review petition against the Lahore High Court stay order regarding holding of Jeeway Pakistan 54th Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhtto National Badminton Championship, which was set to start on 14th July at Pakistan Sports Board. Talking to TheNation, Pakistan Badminton Federation Secretary Imtiaz Gul said: "We have challenged the stay in the court of LHC Judge Justice Khalid Mehmood and the judge after hearing the arguments has deferred the case till 18th of this month. We have argued that Islamabad has its own High Court and any challenge regarding stay can only be availed through IHC as it is not under any legal obligation to uphold LHC verdict." He further said that his group was also recognised by the PSB and around 400 players from around the country had already reached Islamabad to take part in the event and they were depressed that championship was delayed due to stay. Keeping in view the difficulties being faced by the players, the organisers have shifted the event from the PSB to Iqbal Hall. Now the organisers have decided to delay the inauguration of the championship till 18th, he said. He added: "We are quite hopeful that LHC will review its decision and allow us to hold the championship." Wapda are the men's singles defending champion, while NBP are the defending champion of ladies event. Ahsan Qamar and Sarah Khan will defend their titles in their respective categories.
