ISLAMABAD (Online) - Senate standing committee on foreign affairs has directed that the control of Shamsi Airbase should be taken over from the US immediately. The committee met here on Friday in the parliament house under its Chairman Senator Salim Saifullah. America was using this base presently and India could also use it in the coming days to serve her interests, the committee said. The performance of interior ministry and foreign ministry was disappointing in issuance of visas to the US citizens, it commented. Both the ministries issued visas without conducting any verification, it said and recommended that visas to the US nationals be issued by the foreign ministry only. State minister for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar told the committee that the US had suspended the aid of 500 million dollars after 500 US trainers were sent back from Pakistan. Some 200 million dollars under the US Coalition Support Fund would soon be provided to Pakistan, she pointed out. She stated that talks with India were heading towards right direction. Pakistan wanted constructive and positive dialogue with India on all issues, she held. She also gave briefing to the committee on foreign secretary-level talks between Pakistan and India and apprised the committee about the progress achieved so far in this regard.
