GHALANAI-The government has decided to reopen National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) branch in the Agency Headquarters Ghalanai.

The decision was taken in a meeting held with Political Agent, Mahmood Aslam Wazir in the chair. The meeting was also attended by Regional Head of NBP KP/FATA Saima Rahim, Tariq Mahmood Khattak, Business Development Officer NBP, and others officials.

There is only one bank (UBL) in the entire Upper Mohmand Sub-Division and there are thousands of government employees including that of Levy, Khassadrs, FC and Pensioners who get their salaries from this only bank.

Mohmand tribesmen and government employees were always demanding of the authorities to reopen a branch of National Bank of Pakistan in Ghalanai.

Regional Head of the NBP KP/FATA Saima Rahim along with political agent and others officials visited the building of NBP and examined the building.

She said: “The bank was closed down due to the worse law and order situation in 2001 and now we are assured that peace has been restored in the area therefore we are reopening it.”

“On the special directives of KP Governor and President of NBP we are going to reopen Mohmand agency branch to facilitate the consumers and tribesmen,” said Saima.

Saima Rahim said that now the State Bank of Pakistan has directed the NBP branches to start giving interest free loans in the region, which will yield a good impact in the tribal areas.

Political agent said that now there is peace in the area and the writ of the government has been restored in the entire tribal region.

“Economic and others progressive activities have started in the area therefore it is the need of hour that the NBP branch should be reopened in the area,” said Aslam.

He said that the local administration and security forces will provide all-out support and help to the staff while reopening the branch in the area.

On the occasion, political agent also requested of the NBP officials that at least one branch of each bank should be opened in every tehsil of the tribal agency to facilitates government servants as well as general public.

Mir Afzal Khan Mohmand, President Mohmand Welfare Organization, welcomed the reopening of bank and thanked the President of NBP Pakistan and Regional head of NBP KP/FATA. He said that most of the government servants and people were compelled to deposit/withdrawn money/passport fee in Shabqadar bank because the only bank in Ghalanai was not accepting passport fee and utilities bills in time.
